Nine Tips to Stay Khushu' During Solah

REMINDER

Concentration In Solah Is A Pillar To Perfect Our Solah.

1. Before standing up for Prayer, try to deal with all the minor urgent matters that demand your attention. If you are pressed by hunger, eat first; if you are pressed to attend to the call of nature, relieve yourself first; if you are the parent of an infant, feed him or her, or keep him or her busy so the child will not distract you.

2. Perform your wudhu’ (ablution) well, paying due care and attention, stop talking while performing ablution.

3. Approach the Prayer with zest and passion as if it is the last prayer in your life before dying, it could very be as none of us is given a guarantee of being alive till the next solah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us that we could do nothing in this world that could ever surpass Prayer in merit and excellence.

4. Visualize that in your Prayer you are going to have a special audience with ALLAH, Lord of the worlds, and that you are enjoying a direct communion with HIM, which is very true.

5. Picture the scene of the Last Day when people will be lined up into two groups, one destined for Heaven, and another for Hell, and ask yourself where you would be placed.

6. Focus your mind on what you are reading in your Prayer and recite simple surahs that you understand their meaning and ponder on the meaning while you recite.

7. If, despite your best efforts, your mind is still wandering, seek refuge in ALLAH

8. Pray to ALLAH and beg HIM to grant you true the joy of concentrating on your Prayer and protection against the wanderings of your mind.

9. Place your eyesight to the one spot where you will be making your sujud while you recite and avoid taking your eyes from that sport. Remember always that you are standing in front of ALLAH the Mighty offering such solah hoping for HIM to accept from you.

With the above, insyaAllah we can defeat shaiton in offering our solah properly. May ALLAH (Al-Muhaimin, The Protector) protect us from the tricks of shaiton during prayers and forgive us our mistakes. Aameen Ya Mujeeb

Surah Al-Hadid 57:22 - 23

22. No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy -

23. In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -

I stumbled upon these verses in Quran today. Maybe I've mentioned before that I'll try my best to recite at least two pages of Quran with the translations daily. And if I felt that I'm drawn to the verses, I would highlight them. Today, I actually reciting Surah Al-Imran. After finishing, I composed a question in my mind. The question is actually regarding whether I would find my jodoh in this life. And then, I want to randomly opened the Quran and it opened to the page containing these verses (which are already highlighted from my previous recitation).

I, sometimes do this thing. Asking random questions and opening the Quran to get answers. There is a saying that when you want to talk to Allah, you should perform solah  and recite dua and when you want Allah to talk to you, you should read the Quran. Amazingly, each times I did this, I always get the sentences that relevant to my questions. I know that I should not simply made conclusions based solely on my interpretations on them without the basic and knowledge of Quran's translation. It is even dangerous and sinful if I interpreted them wrongly. So, I usually compared them to scholarly detailed explanations and interpretations.

Okay, back to these verses from Surah Al-Hadid. Hadid means Iron. Reading the translations, I couldn't help to relate them with the pandemic we are currently facing, COVID-19. Allah says in Verse 22, 'No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy -' In Quran, Allah sometimes refer to Himself as We. We know that Allah is the ONLY ONE and TRUE GOD. So, why WE (plural)? This is a style of Arabic speech. It is a feature of literary style in Arabic that a person may refer to himself by the pronoun nahnu (we) for respect or glorification. He may also use the word ana (I), indicating one person, or the third person huwa (he). All three styles are used in the Quran, where Allah addresses the Arabs in their own tongue.

During the revelation this Surah, Muslims were facing attacks from the enemy, battles in quick succession, a state of constant siege, hardships caused by economic boycott by the disbelievers, persecution of the converts to Islam everywhere in Arabia. The disbelievers looked upon these as a proof of the Muslims having been forsaken and rejected, and the hypocrites took these as a confirmation of their own suspicions and doubts. As for the sincere Muslims, they were facing these bravely and resolutely, yet the excess of hardship and suffering would sometimes become trying even for them. So, the Muslims are being consoled by Verse 22. Whatever they are experiencing is according to the pre-ordained scheme of Allah and already recorded in the writ of destiny.

Right now, we are also in a stressful and trouble situation. Evethough, things seem tough and bleak, we must never lose hope. Everything happened for a reason. Allah knows best! For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease (Quran 94: 5 -6) May us face this difficult time together with patiently and strongly. Allah is always there with us. Never forget to pray to Allah. And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided (Quran 2:186)

quran verses in my burnt notebook

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Surah Al-Baqarah [2] The Cow

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near.
I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.
So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.

Surah An-Nahl [16] The Bee

So do not assert similarities to Allah. Indeed, Allah knows and you do not know.

Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm
those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that
and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.

Surah Al-Isra' [17] The Night Journey

Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous [in intention] -
then indeed He is ever, to the often returning [to Him], Forgiving.

And We have certainly diversified [the contents] in this Qur'an that mankind may be reminded,
but it does not increase the disbelievers except in aversion.

Your Lord is most knowing of you. If He wills, He will have mercy upon you; or if He wills, He will punish you.
And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a manager.

Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back into the sea another time and send upon you
a hurricane of wind and drown you for what you denied?
Then you would not find for yourselves against Us an avenger.

And whoever is blind in this [life] will be blind in the Hereafter and more astray in way.

Surah Luqman [31] Luqman

And whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a doer of good -
then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters.

Surah As-Sajadah [32] The Prostration

And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do.

Say, [O Muhammad], "On the Day of Conquest the belief of those who had disbelieved will not benefit them,
nor will they be reprieved."

Surah Al-Ahzab [33] The Combined Force

It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that
He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.

Surah Asy-Syura [42] The Consultation

And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,

ps: honestly, when reciting the quran with its translation, it felt like Allah is speaking directly to me.
each time i had problems, questions or doubts, the answers are given directly to me from the quran. btw,
if you could refer back to my previous entry on emergency phone numbers, you may understand
more on what i meant. i'm not a pious person. i'm far away from it but i'm trying my best to become one.
i may have my good and bad day. during my bad day, my faith will be tested. for example,
during my depressed moment. where i thought that life is useless and i have no reason to be alive anymore,
the moment when i would want to commit suicide, Allah's words are the one that really prevent it.
i'm very very grateful to be borned as a muslim and i pray hard each day that i'll die as a muslim as well.
this is one of my favourite verse from the quran. everytimes hardships come in my way,
i'll remember this verse;

Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity.
It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained,
and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned.
"Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.
Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear.
And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us.
You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."
