Semerah Padi

yesterday was my first experience watching live theatre at istana budaya. before this, i just watched theatres that were featured in movies or films, hehe.. actually, i want to thank my dear friend ateng for buying the tickets for me and A. it all started out when i saw ateng posted on his wall at facebook that he wants to see the theatre 'semerah padi.' so, i decided to tag along since i have always wanted to see any theatre live at istana budaya. i went there early, right after A finished her work on 5.30pm fearing the possibility of traffic jam and getting lost. i'm quite good at getting lost especially in KL.

earlier this year, a few of my friends decided to surprise me by taking me to watch Tun Mahathir The Musical on my birthday. it turned out, that they were the one that were surprised since during my birthday, i went to my friend's wedding in johor. miss my luck on watching theatre until now. the theatre was taken from an original late p. ramlee film of the same title. It is about a small village, Semerah Padi governed by a pious penghulu called dato' merah alongside his right handman, taruna and left handman aduka. Semerah Padi was ruled with strong Islamic beliefs and laws. dara, daughter of dato' merah has a feeling for aduka and the feeling was mutual.

unfortunately, dara was later engaged to taruna. later on, the country was attacked by pirates and king requests enforcement from semerah padi. dato' merah send taruna with several 'pendekar.' aduka was left to look after the village. not long after taruna's departure, semerah padi was attacked by borek and his gangs. borek want to avenge the death of his brother, jejaka. jejaka was ordered to be killed by dato' merah, according to the islamic law for commiting adultery. borek kidnapped dara and aduka came to the rescue. something happened to dara and aduka, regarding 'purity and sin.' that's all i could tell. for further information, just google 'semerah padi' or watch the theatre for yourselves! it is until 31st december 2011, ticket prices range from RM30 - RM200. you can get it online at ticket2u.biz.

i found the theatre interesting and captivating. the casts did a good job while the props did a great job! hehe, A and i keep joking about the coconut trees that fall from the sky. the theatre was meant to be serious, but i couldn't keep my serious mood because there were always something that will make me want to laugh. either the actors' line and action. the falling coconut trees, wardrobe malfunction etc.. there is this one guy that keep repeating borek's line with antic demeanour. then they were this devils group that can perform acrobatic, not to mention they are cute as well, hehe..the main actors were not as cute as them.. oh, i forgot to mention the main casts:
  • Datuk Baharuddin Omar - Dato' Merah
  • Abby Nadzri - Dara
  • Khir Rahman - Aduka
  • Fauzi Nawawi - Taruna
  • Opie Zami - Borek
  • Azizah Mahzan - Mak Dara
attending this theatre made me want to see more and more theatre! and i A even suggested that we went to see classical music net time, probably at petronas philharmonic. i started to like classical music ever since watching japanese drama series, nodame cantabile. for you that haven't seen this drama, i highly recommended it. it's funny and enlighting, plus the music is great. before watching nodame, the only classical musician i known is mozart and beethoven. after watching nodame, my knowledge on classical musical raised several notches! now i know bach, schumann, tchaikovsky, brahm, chopin etc.. insyaAllah, next time i am able to watch it.

ps: there's another thing beside the theatre that's making me happy and non stop smiling until now!!! thank you ya Allah for this wonderful feeling... really looking forward to tomorrow!

my singapore trip

here's the late update on my singapore trips with my friends last month. we went there by train on friday, 25/11/2011. it's the cheapest way to travel there, hehe.. we departed at about 11pm and arrived at woodlands at 6.30am. i slept almost all along the journey. but my poor friends couldn't due to some technical problems which i couldn't mention here in order not to offend anyone, hehe.. we went through immigration check and then stepped outside the station. we first thought that the Woodlands MRT station was nearby. so we just walked, following the crowd. but when we couldn't seem to find it, we asked the local. it turned out that we need to take a bus to the station. so, we took a bus to the station. from there we took MRT to city hall. we must change train to get to aljunied station (the nearest MRT station to our hotel at sims avenue).

we also bought singapore tourist pass for three days. with that pass, we have unlimited access to singapore public transport. it costs SGD34/pax (SGD8/day and SGD10 deposit). we actually had to wait for the ticket counter to be opnened on 9am. while waiting, we took some pictures and i actually ate by the street, huhu.. in singapore, drinking and eating in the stations are prohibited. from aljunied station, we walked about 10 minutes to reach our hotel. i booked the hotel online and it costs only SGD50/pax for 2 nights. the rooms are small but still comfortable for us, singles. i wouldn't advice family to stay there. another reason for the cheap prices is its location in the red-light district. a nice local advised us no to roam the street at night since we are all girls. it could be dangerous.

after freshening up, we made a move to sentosa island again via bus and MRT. oh, please add cable car to that. we only took MRT until harbour front and from harbour front we took cable car. the cable car costs SGD26/pax (return). we also bought ticket to underwater world and cineblast. the view from the top is incredible. upon arriving at sentosa island, we walked to one of the famous symbol of singapore, the merlion. took pictures as usual. ooh, forgot to mention, i have this one tiny not so good habit regarding pictures taking. i tend not to bring out my camera when there are someone else doing the photographing, haha.. one of the reason is, my camera a little hard to use. there's no anti-schock and pictures taken will usually blurry. so i let my friend do the photographing, hehe..

i rushed my friends to the underwater world since i've been dying to see the dolphin show. this is my most anticipated event besides universal studio. alhamdulilllah, we managed to catch the 2pm show. it was great but short. there are three dolphins and two seals performing. some lucky auciences even get the chances to touch the dolphins and seals. after the dolphin show, we went to the underwater aquarium. honestly for me, the aquarium is average. almost same like aquaria klcc but bigger. we head to cineblast 4D cinema after underwater world. in this cinema, the seat will move according to the movement in the movie.

that's a wrap for us at sentosa island that day. we took the cable car back to harbour front, had our lunner (lunch + dinner) at subway. my friends didn't know that not all fast food restaurants in singapore are halal. so they were quite dissapointed when they could only chose between tuna and egg at the subway, hehe.. when we had our stomach refill, we went to another singapore favourite attraction, the singapore flyer. it is said that we could see malaysia and indonesia from it since it has a diameter of 165m. but, since we ride it at night, all we could see are just the blinking, beutiful dazzling lights. the ride on the flyer is about 30 - 40 minutes. we call it a day after the flyer and get some sleep back at our hotel.

on our second day in singapore, we spent the whole day at universal studios. universal studio is also located at sentosa island. we bought the ticket in malaysia for RM180/pax. this time we took a bus to sentosa, no more cable car. we arrived there quite early. the just open admission. so, we didn't have to queue long for a ride. again here, i kept rushing my friends forward so we could get on all the ride and don't have to wait long. i stopped them from taking pictures, told them that they had ample opportunities later after we had ride on all attractions. the first ride we took is the transformers ride. this is my favourite ride of all since in this ride, i wouldn't have to feign my scream! i screamed for real! in this ride, you will get a 3D experiences, helping autobots defeating decepticons. imagine megatron right in front of you, trying to grab you!!! after that, we went for TWO EXTREME roller coaster rides. one is called cyclon, the other one is human. but, in these rides, i just feign my scream. hehe, i think i'm quite immune to roller coaster rides after all these times. think again, i love roller coaster ride since i was a small kid. during these times, i usually get dissapointed because i couldn't ride on one since i've not reached the minimum height.

after those two roller coaster ride, we went to another ride. this ride is called 'revenge of the mummies.' it is in the dark roller coaster ride and you wouldn't have the faintest idea of the route. sometimes it can move backwards. near this ride, they are some people acting as the characters from the mummy movies. the are handsome and tough medjais and managed to get photo with anuck sun amun, imhotep's girlfriend. and then we moved to the lost world. we hade to queue long for the canopy flyer ride. in my personal opinion, the queue is long since this ride are available to both adults and children. after the canopy flyer ride, we went to far away land. here, the buildings and characters are based on shrek. we ate at friar tuck which offered halal food. ironic isn't is that friar offered halal food, hehe..

then we rushed to see real action scene from waterworld movies. there are explosions and stunts. we were advised to bring raincoat to watch this action because there are some zones where the audiences will surely get wet. we didn't sit in that zone eventhough we did bring raincoats. all the actors were great and A told me that they even win a lot of awards. after that, we went for a few more rides, sawa a few shows, took a lot of pictures and bought some souvenirs. like i said we spent the whole day at universal studios. we went back to the hotel and get ready for our last day, tomorrow.

on our last day, we checked out and went to bugis villlage to buy souvenirs. to those who want to buy souvenirs in singapore, this is where you should be. the items are really cheap. for example tou could get 4 fridge magnets for only SGD10 and 18 keychains for again SGD10. there are a lot of choices and the shops opened quite early in the morning. when we were done with our shopping, we walked to arab street to get lunch. we shared 1 singapore murtabak (which is quite huge) and 1 chicken beriyani set. we again took MRT and bus to woodlands train checkpoint. after went through immigration and custom checkd, the train departed as scheduled on 1.45pm. but it got delayed along the way and we only arrived at KL Sentral at about 10.30pm. the funny news  is that both liza and me didn't went to work the next day because we are tired. overall, it's a great holiday and i am satisfied. looking forward for another holiday trip soon!!!
